Welcome to ARTIVISM!
You've found something beautiful.
by Kai Malette
Hello there! Welcome to the brand new ARTIVISM newsletter! We are so happy to have you here. This is a brand new outlet and crowd we’re reaching, it’s all very exciting. We’ll get into the meat and potatoes of this piece in a second, but first, we should properly introduce ourselves.
If this is your first time seeing a post like this, welcome to the experience! We hope to brighten your week whenever you come around. If you saw our name and are already familiar with how these types of posts operate, welcome back! We hope you’re not too surprised to see us here.
Who Are We?
We are ARTIVISM. Social Activism Through Creative Expression. And believe me, it’s not just a clever portmanteau. Founded by two Howard University graduates, we are a creative production company based in Washington D.C., and it is our mission to assist creatives in any chapter of their creative journey.
When we call ourselves a ‘production company,’ it is not limited to any one form of expression. We can cater to everyone, whether you are a musician trying to record a new song, a filmmaker who needs a space to host a screening, or a painter who wishes to have their work put on display. Merch production, embroidery, podcasts, photography— our ‘anything’ truly means anything, and we are compatible with anyone who walks through our doors.
In addition to producing art for creatives, we also produce events for the community. ARTIVISM’s home base is our gallery in Northwest D.C., minutes from the Capitol Building and Union Market. It is there where we transform our space into a hub of art and passion, for a host of different events all throughout the week. There are seven days in a week, friends. We host events for six of them. Rain or shine, we’ve got something going on. Jam sessions, open mics, yoga, dance parties, movie nights; the list is ever-expanding and the only limitation is our imagination. Even when no event is happening at a given hour, the store doors are open if you simply wish to sit somewhere that isn’t your house or your workplace. Someone will be inside, ready to greet you.

And just when you think that we can’t do much more, we’ve another capability for you. Once you have your brand ready to go, whether you brought it to life with us or had it on the back burner, we can help you sell it. In the back half of our gallery lies our consignment store, where people can browse the many brands that have partnered with us. Your brand is more than welcome to join them, and people supporting you supports us. That’s what community is all about.
It is our belief that the art we create for ourselves should be what we consume. Much like food, you can only partake in so much ‘quick and easy’ before it becomes stale. The goal is to spread positive energy through our events, and bring people together to make art that is healthy for the soul. At ARTIVISM, we make sure that we’re fresh and new, every single day.
Like the Morning Paper
So, now that you have an idea of what ARTIVISM is, you’re probably thinking: “Alright, disembodied narrator, what’s the newsletter for?”
That’s the ‘meat and potatoes’ we were referencing earlier. Full circle moment!
Like the blogs on our official website, this newsletter will serve as a brief recap of the week, but its main focus is to be an insider’s look ahead for events to come at our gallery. You’ll get a firsthand look at what to expect, and perhaps even some behind the scenes content, such as quotes from our team, images, and messages from the hosts of our events!
“So I get to be early? That’s pretty cool! But how can I get involved?”
Loving the enthusiasm!
The best way to support us is by showing up to our events as authentically as possible— as yourself. An open mind, an open heart, and a love of creation should be what drives you; motivates you to spend time with us. It also never hurts when you tell others about us! We love the community, and want to see more of you all.
If you have an event that you would like hosted in our gallery, you can visit our website and book with us, or come into the store to discuss details! We’re always happy to talk with you. The full list of our services is also available on the website, so please feel free to explore.
Finally, if you cannot make it to events at the gallery, but still feel the pull of generosity, we have merchandise, and an active donation link. Your support means the world to us, and we’re going to keep moving with intention and creativity.
10 Florida Avenue, Washington, D.C.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Right then. That’s all for the introductory bits! Be sure to subscribe for updates on all of our future endeavors. The first weekly newsletter is coming sooner than you think, so keep those email notifications on, and follow us on our other platforms.
